Maddie “Lady Rose” Johnson

Amory – Maddie L. Monaghan Johnson, “Lady Rose”, 71, went home to be with the Lord on July 24, 2021. She was born on March 4, 1950, in Amory, MS to the late Tom C. and Bertha Starling Monaghan.

Maddie grew up in a very large family in Monroe County and learned early the value of family. She was one of 11 siblings in her family. Maddie graduated from Amory High School and continued her education at Vaughn’s Beauty College where she graduated from the program. A woman with many talents, during her lifetime, she worked as a cook, a seamstress, and she made ceramics.

Maddie married the love of her life, Cecil Truman Johnson on November 22, 1969, and together they were blessed with two children. She was a great caregiver, was thoughtful, and great wife and mama. Her children and grandchildren meant the world to her and she served as a Girl Scout Leader for several years. In all things, she did her very best to always point them towards the Lord in all situations in life. Maddie was a member of the Methodist Church and the Baptist Church. Her faith in God was strong and she always put others before herself. Often times, Maddie would speak her mind as she was grounded in her faith and identity.

In her free time, she liked to cook, sew, do D.I.Y. projects like ceramics, fix others’ hair, and make arts and crafts. Some of her close friends were Julia Welch, Glenda Camp, Cheryl Stegall, all of her former classmates. She enjoyed listening to Elvis Presley, oldies and gospel music.

Maddie’s friends and family loved her so much and they will miss her dearly. They will cherish all the great memories and the love she gave to them.

She is survived by her daughter, Vicky Renee Johnson, Amory; son, Scott Johnson (Beth), Aberdeen; grandchildren, Dylan Johnson, Brayden Johnson, and Maddie Johnson; sister, Mattie Lou Wigginton, New Albany; brothers, Bill Monaghan (Linda), Amory and Lincoln Monaghan, Oxford; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Truman Johnson; brothers, Franklyn Monaghan, B.H. “Brownie” Monaghan, Carroll “Bubba” Monaghan; sisters, Annie Kirby, Carolyn “Doll” Duke, Ruby Griggs, and Virginia Dare Monaghan.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, July 28, 2021, at 11:00 AM, E. E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory with Bro. Andy Russell and Bro. Scott Johnson officiating.
