Amory – Mable J. Hood, 92, died on Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at her residence under the care of Southern Care Hospice. Born on July 17, 1921, in Bigbee, she was a daughter of the late Audie Earl and Mary Louis Owings Johnson.
She married Theron Hood in 1939. Before retiring, she worked as an alterations specialist for Hood’s Cleaners and enjoyed her many customers who became her friends. Strong in her faith, Mrs. Hood was a charter member of Meadowood Baptist Church, along with her husband and daughter, Susan. She served on many committees and church programs. Mrs. Hood enjoyed spending time with her family.
She is survived by her daughters, Ramona Hood Saxon (Bill), Hattiesburg and Susan Hood Duke (Terry), Amory; grandchildren, Lori Saxon Galloway (Blake), Petal, Julie Saxon Anderson (Tony), Hattiesburg, Matthew Duke (Leslie), Tampa, FL, and Justin Duke (Loren), Tupelo; great-grandchildren, Christopher Carr, Nicholas Carr, Will Duke, Sophia Duke, and Isabella Duke; brother-in-law, Dick Sanderson, Amory; nieces, Brenda Harrison Boyd (Donald) and Merri Leigh Sanderson of Amory; nephews, Steve Sanderson (Mary) and Rick Sanderson (Donna) of Amory; great-nieces and nephews who were a very important part of her life, Brad Boyd (Teresa), Niki Boyd Zemnes (Les), Claire Sanderson Wright, Caitlin Sanderson Holloway (Kyle), and Katharine Sanderson Riley (Ben); and life-long friend and caretaker, Erline Smith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Theron Hood; sisters, Frances J. Harrison and Earlene J. Sanderson; and nephew, Eddie Harrison.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, March 15 at Meadowood Baptist Church with Dr. Lloyd Sweatt officiating. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jason Gallop, C. B. Peden, Frank Owen, Van Ritter, Rex Coker, David Best, and Rev. Danny Powell. Honorary pallbearer will be Dr. Eddie Yoe.
Visitation will be from 10 AM until the service hour on Saturday at the church.
