Quincy – Luther Chevreul Harris, 85, died Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center in Amory. A native of Quincy, he was born on March 23, 1926 to the late Ellie Brown and Manie Phillips Harris.
Chevreul was a Christian who had a great love for his family. He was a graduate of Quincy Schools. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy serving during World War II. He married Willadean Hunt on May 16, 1952, who survives. Chevreul was a serviceman working for Mississippi Valley Gas from 1951 until his retirement in 1988. He was a faithful member of Quincy United Methodist Church serving as a Steward and a Sunday school teacher. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, loved sports and sporting activities, especially the Ole Miss Rebels.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Willadean Hunt Harris of Quincy; his son, Luke Harris (Kathy) of Amory; his daughter, Shirley Novotny (Marv) of Houston TX; his grandchildren, Heather Gault, Jonathan and Chris Novotny; great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Wesley Gault and Luke Novotny. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Staley Harris and his sister, Lalia Harris.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:00 am, Friday, July 15, 2011 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Rev. Don McCain and Rev. Bill Cornett officiating. Burial will follow at Durrett Cemetery in Quincy. Pallbearers will be Cecil Harris, George Bowen, Bert Mize, Ralph Reeves, David Easley, and Bobby Harper. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Tapp, Steve Fowlkes, James Springfield, Jerry Morgan and Glenn Bingham.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 14th at the funeral home from 5-7 pm and will continue Friday until time for the service to begin.
