Amory – Lula Rose Peeler Wiygul, 83, died on Monday, September 26, 2011, at Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center. Born on July 14, 1928, in Amory, she was a daughter of the late Reva Lou Turner and William Lee Peeler, Sr.
Mrs. Wiygul was a graduate of Amory High School, Class of 1946, and married James A. Wiygul on December 11, 1946. A wonderful mother, she lived for her family and always put them first in her life. Before becoming a homemaker, Mrs. Wiygul had worked at the Gilmore Sanatorium, became a stay-at-home-mom while her children were in school, worked at Longneckers, and worked at Ely Walker in Memphis before retiring in 1981. She and her husband moved back to Amory in 1986. Mrs. Wiygul was a member of First United Methodist Church. A beloved wife and mother who never met a stranger, she was passionate about children. Mrs. Wiygul enjoyed listening to music by Barbara Streisand and Lawrence Welk, sewing, cooking working in her flowers, doing things with her husband, eating out with her classmates, and visiting with her children.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, James Allen Wiygul, Sr., Amory; daughter, Kathryn Rose Wiygul Wenzler (George E.), Dallas, TX; son, James Allen “Al” Wiygul, Jr. (Brenda), Saltillo; sister, Reva L. “Honey” Peeler Hester, Birmingham, AL; grandchildren, James A. “Jimmy” Wiygul, III, (Amanda), Richmond, Jeremy Wiygul (Cecilia), Boston, MA, Rachel Wiygul, Brooklyn, NY, William Anthony “Tony” Wiygul, Ocean Springs, Betsy Pruett, Southaven, Tammie Basinger, Cordova, TN, William T. “Billy” Basinger (Kevin Black), Austin, TX, Lori Stephens, Mantachie, and Daisy Wenzler, Dallas, TX; great-grandchildren, Paige Pruett, Southaven, Stella Wenzler, Dallas, TX, Bryant Tidwell, Southaven, Jordan Wiygul, Mantachie, Jake Wiygul, Mantachie, Lane Rogers, Richmond, Abbigail Rogers, Richmond, Julieta Wiygul, Boston, MA, Tonie Funderburk, Dorsey, and Alexis Funderburk, Mantachie; great-great-granddaughter, Harleigh Jo Sartain, Dorsey; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Alyene Peeler Pennington; and brothers, Joe Frank Peeler, Sr., Gerald Peeler, and William Peeler.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 PM, Friday, September 30 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Rev. Glyn Wiygul and Rev. Warren R. Coile officiating. Burial will follow in Haughton Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be William Basinger, Jimmy Wiygul, Tony Wiygul, Jeremy Wiygul, Frank Peeler, and Kevin Black. Honorary pallbearers will be the AHS Class of 1946.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Thursday at the funeral home.
