Amory – Lula Faye Nix Southard, 81, died on Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at Community Hospice at Darlington Oaks, Verona. Born on November 30, 1930, in Alabama, she was a daughter of the late Columbus Perry and Pearlie Ethel Vaughn Nix.
Mrs. Southard attended Hatley High School. On May 14, 1948, she married her high school sweetheart, Thomas Henry ‘Tommy’ Southard. Always seeing them together, they enjoyed yard sales, walking while holding hands, and swinging on the porch. Working as a seamstress, she retired from Red Kap in 1992. Mrs. Southard was saved and baptized at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. A wonderful mother who possessed a great heart that was full of compassion, her life was surrounded by her husband, children, and grandchildren. Mrs. Southard enjoyed reading, collecting things, and Gospel and Country music.
She is survived by her daughters, Patricia Stoddard (Rodney), Amory, Kathy Vaughan (Daniel), Monticello, GA, and Sandie Plunkett (Ken Chism), Becker; sons, Robert Wayne Southard, Amory, Donald Joe Southard, Aberdeen, and Thomas Hugh Southard (Janice Birmingham), Aberdeen; brothers, Perry Nix (Gena), Hatley, Wilburn Nix (Mary Joyce), Amory and J. W. Nix (Sue), Smithville; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband of 63 years, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Ruby Inmon and Vela Mae Cantrell; brother, Gene Nix; and 3 grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, March 10 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Tommy Whaley officiating. Burial will follow in Hatley Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Stanley Gray, Terry Thomas, Jason Vaughan, Ricky Stoddard, Brandon Stoddard, and Johnny Sloan. Honorary pallbearer will be Adam Vaughan.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Friday at the funeral home.
