Brandon – Lucille H. Kendrick, 87, died on Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at Brandon Nursing and Rehab. Born on January 3, 1926, in New Hope, she was the daughter of the late James and Ola Gertrude Jewel Halbert.
Mrs. Kendrick was a graduate of New Hope High School and the University of Alabama Nursing School. Serving as an LPN for 40 years, she began working at Doster Hospital and retired in the early 1990’s from Dr. Henry J. Holliman’s practice in Columbus. Mrs. Kendrick was a member of Grandview Baptist Church, Pearl and a former member and Children’s Church director at Central Grove Baptist Church in Monroe County. A fine Christian lady with a servant’s heart who was a great example to others, her passion was helping and serving others. With faith and family being most important to her, Mrs. Kendrick enjoyed playing the piano, painting, collecting dachshund figurines, being outdoors working in the yard, gardening, growing African violets, watching the red birds, listening to and playing hymns and Southern Gospel music, and most of all, watching and cheering for the Dallas Cowboys.
She is survived by her sons, David Lee Cox (Carol), Tupelo and Peyton Rawls, (Angie), Pearl; sister, Frances O’Bryant, New Hope; brother, Buddy Halbert, Columbus; grandchildren, Cliff Cox (Misty), Jennifer Burleson (Jeff), and Jaron Rawls, Melody Rawls; great-grandchildren, Andrew Burleson, Hunter Burleson, J. D. Burleson, Camryn Cox, Sam Cox, and Bel Cox; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, James Marshall Cox, James Floyd Rawls, and Joseph Winslow Kendrick; and sisters, Marjorie Chatham and Martha Elmore.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 AM, Thursday, June 20 at Central Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Dennis Smithey officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Visitation will be from 10 – 10:50 AM, Thursday at Central Grove Baptist Church.
