Amory – Loyd H. “Harry” Cox, 61, died on Tuesday, May 24, 2011, at Sanctuary Hospice. Born on July 3, 1949, he was a son of the late Loyd and Mary Reedy Cox.
Harry attended Smithville schools. After working at True Temper for ten years, he worked as a carpenter for Fair and Square Construction. He was of the Baptist faith. Outgoing, loving life and embracing it to the fullest, Harry is fondly remembered for always waving at everybody. For 13 years, he was a member of the Army National Guard. Enjoying the outdoors, he liked to go fishing and mow yards. Harry enjoyed listening to Country and Gospel music and watching the local Gospel channel.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Frances Cox, Smithville; step-daughter, Toni (Ronnie) Dykes, Aberdeen; son, Gregory Keith Cox, Jackson; step-sons, Jimmy (Teresa) Davis, Smithville and Kenneth Davis, Amory; brother, Ricky Lee (Jackie) Cox, Evergreen; grandchildren, Susan Aldridge, Hamilton, AL, Kristina Jones, Amory, and Lance Bowen, Oklahoma City, OK; several great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews, Sabrina (Kevin) Wiginton, Ricky Jr. Cox, Austin Cox, Michael Huling and Elizabeth Huling, all of Evergreen; and his favorite dog, Lucille. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Courtney Easter and a niece, Brandy Cox.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 AM, Friday, May 27 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory with Bro. Tommy Whaley officiating. Burial will follow in Durrett Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ricky Rye, Rick Cox, Austin Cox, Kevin Wiginton, David Young, and Craig Young.
Visitation will be from 5 - 8 PM, Thursday at the funeral home.
