Nettleton – Loyal Alton West, 75, died on Tuesday, June 19, 2012, at NMMC, Tupelo. Born on February 20, 1937, in Westville, he was a son of the late James Burdine and Gladys Lorene Tipton West.
Mr. West was a graduate of Greenwood Springs High School, Class of 1957. He married Dolly Gray in May 1960. Retiring in 1984, Mr. West worked as a presser at Sharp Garment Company in Aberdeen. A man of faith, he grew up in Westville Church of Christ, was a member of Smithville Church of Christ, and attended Nettleton Church of Christ. Loving, happy, generous, and the rock of his family, Mr. West was passionate about helping others. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, watching all sports, especially football, sitting under the tree, mowing his yard, and Old Gospel music.
He is survived by his former wife and friend, Dolly Causey, Nettleton; daughters, Cynthia Ann West and Amy Michelle West of Nettleton; son, Loyal Rickey West, Sr., (Wanda), Becker; sister, Sherry Murff (Bobby), Bartahatchie; brother, Ronnie West (Martha), Hamilton; sister-in-law, Peggy West, Hamilton; grandchildren, Brandi Tims, Loyal Rickey West, Jr., Terra West, Patrick “Tony” Carroll, Courtney Ford, Amber Sullivan, Jeremy Adams, and Taylor Adams; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Gladys Lorene Westbrook; brother, Jimmy West; and special friend and mentor, Hoyet Hathcock.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 AM, Saturday, June 23 at Nettleton Church of Christ with Mr. Jeff Bates, minister, officiating. Burial will follow in Jones Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Loyal Rickey West, Jr., Jeremy Adams, Tony Carroll, Nathan Doyle, Keith Murff, and James Tims. Honorary pallbearers will be David Westbrook, Doug West, Robert Murff, and Dewayne Murff.
Visitation will be from 5 - 8 PM, Friday at the funeral home. Mr. West will lie-in-state at the church from 9 AM until the service hour on Saturday.
Memorials may be given to a charity of choice.
