Louise Phillips Cox

Amory – Louise Phillips Cox, 76, passed away on Friday, January 16, 2015, at NMMC, Iuka. Born on June 19, 1938, in Monroe County, she was a daughter of the late William Neval and Maudie Mae Mathis Phillips.

Mrs. Cox attended Hatley School. On August 11, 1959, she married Joseph Chester “Joe” Cox. After 32 years, she retired as a seamstress from McCoy Manufacturing. After retiring, she enjoyed spending time with her husband, family and friends. Strong in her faith, Mrs. Cox was a member of Providence Baptist Church and the WMA. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Order of the Eastern Star. Caring, loving, thoughtful, sassy, and outgoing, she was passionate about caring for her neighbors. Mrs. Cox enjoyed being outdoors, flower gardening, fishing, shopping, cooking, spot-lighting, going to the river for a picnic, and Gospel and Country music.

Survivors include her son, Wayne Cox, Amory; sisters, Josephine Smith (Claxton) and Faydean Wright (George Jr.) of Amory, and Earline Capps (James), Hatley; brothers, Howard Phillips (Hazel), Gattman and Harold Phillips, Amory; grandchildren, Michael Cox, Laci Dillman, William Joseph Cox, Kimberly Cox, Terri Mitchell, Courtney Raymond, Brandon Cox, Bri Oliver, Chyenne Cox and Amy Cox; great-grandchildren, Cameron Cox, Peyton Cox, Tulley Epperson, Drew Mitchell, Easton Turnage, Livia Cox, Cooper Holloway; several nieces & nephews; special friends, Joyce Corbine and Debbie Smith.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Ann Chism; son, David Cox; and brother, Leon Phillips.

A Funeral Service will be held at 4 PM, Sunday, January 18 at Providence Baptist Church with Bro. Scott Johnson and Bro. Robert E. Fowlkes officiating. Burial will follow in Hatley Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tony and John Phillips; Sam Jones; Curtis McKinney; Devan Hurley; Greg Oliver; and Jeremy Dillman. Honorary pallbearer will be Cameron Cox.

Visitation will be from 5 - 8 PM, Saturday at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory.

Memorials may be given to Providence Baptist Church, 1311 Highland Dr., Amory, MS 38821.
