Born March 5, 1945, in Monroe County, he was a son of the late Roy C. and Gwendolyn Boyd West.Louis graduated from Hatley High School in 1963. He worked as a welder at Babcock and Wilcox in West Point and retired with 31 years of service. After 22 years of service in the Army National Guard, he retired as a Staff Sergeant. Louis was saved in January 2009, and became a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Friends and family were an important part of his life; he enjoyed making them laugh with funny stories and jokes. Passionate about working at his sawmill, West Lumber Company, Louis spent most of his free time there. Being outdoors was a pleasure to him, and he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Louis liked owning beagles, and he was especially fond of his beagle, Jack. On Saturdays in the Fall, he loved pulling for the Ole Miss Rebs. . . well, until they became the Ole Miss Bears. Louis enjoyed traveling to the beach and mountains and had many memorable family vacations.Survivors include three daughters: Pamela Rumsey (Shawn) of Birmingham, AL; Karen Williams (Danny) and Paige West, all of the Athens community; mother of his children, Linda West of the Athens community; two sisters: Betty Phillips (Mac) of Amory; Mary Lou West of the Athens community; four grandchildren: Emily Lockhart, Dawson and Addison Williams, all of Athens; and Luke Rumsey of Birmingham, AL; and a special caregiver, Margie Earnest of Okolona.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Roy E. West.A Celebration of Life Service will be at 11:00 AM, Monday at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory with Bro. Mac Phillips officiating. Burial will be in the Durrett Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Len Crump, Lee Crump, Ronnie Crump, Jerry West, Wendell Pace, and Dee Riley.Visitation will be from 5 - 8 PM, Sunday at the funeral home.Memorials may be given to Rett Syndrome, c/o Rene Davis, 7564 Windsong Dr., Trussville, AL 35173.Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at eepicklefuneralhome.com.
