Tupelo – Lorene Walton Roby, 96, passed away on Friday, February 19, 2016, at Cedar’s Health Center. Born on August 7, 1919, in Monroe County, she was the daughter of the late Ezra Walton and Ouida Lewis Walton Head.
Lorene attended Amory High School and worked at Amory Garment Company before marrying Horace G. Roby on September 19, 1937. They raised 2 daughters and a son. Before Horace passed away in 1985, they enjoyed traveling, especially trips to Europe, Alaska, and Hawaii. A great cook and a talented seamstress, Lorene loved homemaking. Her favorite hobby was flower and vegetable gardening.
A quiet and humble lady, Lorene was a very dedicated member of the United Methodist Church. While in Amory, she was a very active member of First United Methodist Church where she was a faithful nursery worker, Sunday school teacher, delivered Meals on Wheels, served on the Administrative Board, and served as the Nursing Home Visitor for many years. A very devoted member of the United Methodist Women, Lorene earned a lifetime pin for her years of service. In 2003, she moved to Bruce and became a member of the United Methodist Church in Bruce. Mrs. Roby moved to Traceway Manor in Tupelo in 2009.
Mrs. Roby is survived by two daughters, Glenda Segars (James), Tupelo, and Tanna Taylor (Jim), Saltillo, and a son, Kerry Roby (Dianne), Germantown, TN; grandchildren, Lee Segars, Amy Price, Mark Segars, Brandon Roby, Barrett Roby, Melissa Roby, and Kyle Taylor; 9 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; sister, Dathel Moore, Woodbridge, VA; brother, Herbert Head, Hamilton; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Horace; 2 sisters; 1 brother.
Her Graveside Service will be held at 3:30 PM, Sunday, February 21, 2016, in Masonic Cemetery with Rev. Lannis May officiating. Burial will follow.
Visitation will be from 1:30 – 3:15 PM, Sunday, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory.
