Northport, AL - Linda Rae Jackson Cox, age 78, of Northport, AL passed away on Friday, April 7, 2017, at UAB in Birmingham, AL. Born on January 27, 1939, she was a daughter of the late Vardie and Celia Fay Jackson.
Today Saint Peter looked around in amazement as He heard a ‘Roll Tide’ echo through the Pearly Gates. She was an avid Alabama Football fan, but she also loved watching professional tennis, college football, and college basketball. Of course, sports gave a reason for family get-togethers that were accompanied by food. Actually, there was always a reason to bring the family together around the dinner table for a large meal. Whether it was a birthday celebration or just the end of a hard work-week, we always appreciated each other’s company. Among her love for food and sports, she had an even greater love for animals. The well-being and treatment of all animals were always her top priority. Since she loved animals so dearly, Linda requests donations be made to your local humane society in lieu of flowers.
As the wife of a military pilot, Linda thoroughly enjoyed traveling and experiencing different cultures of the world. The family has many fond memories of their time spent in Europe. Her visit to Egypt especially holds a place in her heart. While she has seen much of the world, some of her favorite moments were spent in Tuscaloosa where she was a devoted mother and grandmother. She loved watching her grandkids play sports and encouraged them to pursue their dreams. A grandmother is a special kind of person, but to her grandchildren, Linda was that and so much more. She was a vital part in every aspect of their lives, and a role model whom they aspired to be. The world has lost one of the most genuine, generous, honest, and caring women it has ever known.
She is survived by her daughter, Deanna Smith (Orvis); sons, Douglas Cox, Jr. (Holly), and Daniel Cox; sister, Helen Patterson (Joe); grandchildren, Beau, Forest, Taylor, Alise, Lloyd, Blake, Holden; family always, Addison Wilson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Dale Cox, Sr.; parents, Vardie and Celia Fay Jackson.
Her Graveside service will be 2 PM, Monday, April 10, at Haughton Memorial Park, Amory, MS, with Robert Cox officiating. Pallbearers will be David Shafer, John Silva, Barry Smith, Beau Smith, Forest Smith, Orvis Smith, and Taylor Teague
Visitation will be from 12:45-1:45 PM, Monday, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory.
