Kenosha, WI - Lillie D. "Maw Maw" Sanderson, 98, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, November 29, 2013, at Magnolia’s.
Lillie was born on October 20, 1915, to George and Nancy Jane (Wiggins) Derrick in Amory. Lillie, and her twin sister, Willie, were six weeks old when their father passed away. Their mother kept the family together by living and working on the farm.
Lillie married Earl Sanderson on October 17, 1937, and they had two children. Earl preceded her in death on January 29, 2009, after 71 years of marriage. After his death, Lillie moved to Kenosha to live with her daughter and son-in-law. When her health failed, she moved to Magnolia’s where she received loving, round-the-clock-care.
Lillie is survived by her daughter, Martha (Ronny) Lucas, granddaughter, Rebecca (Kevin) Velvikis, and great-grandchildren, Rachel and Ronny Velvikis. Besides her parents and her husband, Lillie was preceded in death by her son, Roy, and grandson, Ronny (Dusty) Lucas, Jr. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Gena Puckett, Josie Gray, Marthe Mangum, Dora Mattison, Liza Derrick, and Willie Palmer; and her brothers Alford, Marion, Johnny, Isaac and Gid.
Lillie became a member of the Hatley Primitive Baptist Church as a young teenager, and the love and faith she has shown in her Lord and Savior through the years has been an inspiration to all who knew her.
Lillie will be laid to rest in Hatley beside her husband and son.
