Amory – Lillie Mae Miles Blake, 89, died Sunday, September 11, 2011 at Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center in Amory. A native of Eldridge, Alabama, she was born on December 29, 1921 to the late W. E. and Cora Purnie Davis Miles.
Known by her faith in God and her love for her family, Lillie Mae was caring and helping to everyone. She was a graduate of Carolina Schools. She married Melvin Chester Blake, who preceded her in death in 1981. She was retired from the garment industry, working at Monroe Trouser, Wilson Mfg, and Amory Garment Co and she also worked at The Friendship House. She was a member of Trace Road Baptist Church where she sang in the church choir. Lillie Mae enjoyed fishing, sewing, and seek-a-word puzzles. Lillie Mae loved listening to gospel music, shopping and dining out.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Shepherd (Dan) of Amory; her brothers, Jimmie Miles (Willalois) of Aberdeen and Billy Miles (Edith) of Verona; four grandchildren, Lisa Gentry (Art) of Amory, Janet Cavalier (Ron) of Rocky Mount NC, Missy Lamm (Mike) of Wilson NC, and Patti Boozer (Jeff) of Amory; 10 great-grandchildren, Jill Hildreth (Casey), Brian Thornton (Dawn), Paige Thornton, Lanson Browning, Shepherd Browning, Hunter Browning, Josh Lamm, Ches Lamm, Taylor Ann Boozer, J J Boozer; 5 great-great-grandchildren, Kody and Kooper Thornton, Annalyn and Wyatt Hildreth, and Blake Browning. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Ches Blake; her sister, Louise Powell; her brother-in-law, James Powell.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 am, Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Tommy Whaley officiating. Burial will follow in Haughton Memorial Park in Amory. Pallbearers will be Jeff Boozer, Brian Thornton, Chad Murphy, Vincent Miles, Van Miles, Ken Miles. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of River Place Nursing Center.
Visitation will be at the funeral home Tuesday, September 13th from 5-8 pm and will continue Wednesday until time for the service to begin.
