Born on November 16, 1919, in Monroe County, she was a daughter of the late Lenzy and Cora Kennedy Smith. She married Hobert Newell in 1937.She attended Splunge and Oak Hill Schools. Relying on her faith in God to guide her life and the decisions she made, Mrs. Newell was a member of Pine Springs Methodist Church. Before retiring, Mrs. Newell worked as a seamstress for area garment plants. After being widowed at a young age, she worked very hard to raise her three children. While traveling to various places, she would always find a church to attend. She was a great caregiver who always cared for those in need. Mrs. Newell , being a loving person, always went out of her way for others. Having a green thumb, she enjoyed her flower garden. Mrs. Newell was well known for her cooking. She cherished time spent with her children, grandchildren, and numerous friends. She was a member of the Eastern Star for over 35 years. She is survived by her son Douglas (Janet) Newell, Jasper, AL; daughter Sue (Davis) Patrick, Columbus; sisters, Marie (Harold) Bunn, Hueytown, AL, Evelyn McBride, Homewood, AL, and Iva Lee Sims, Bethlehem Community; seven grandchildren; five great- grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Jenkins.A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, November 12, 2011, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory with Bro. Edward Puckett and Bro. Brian Crocker officiating. Burial will follow in Bethlehem Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Chris Newell, Charles Marshall, Delwin Sims, Paul Earnest, Lance Coggins, and Chris Fair. Honorary Pallbearers will be Gary Bunn, Tim Bunn, Danny McBride, Craig Newell, and Michael Grimes.Visitation will be 5-8 PM Friday, November 11, 2011 at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home, and will continue Saturday until 10:45 AM.Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at eepicklefuneralhome.com.
