Leroy Francis Gaskin, 93, died on Sunday, August 19, 2012 at his home in Amory. Born November 22, 1918 in Calhoun County, Mississippi, he was a son of the late James Burton “Jim” and Minnie Frances Chandler Gaskin.
Before his retirement, he was a farmer and was former owner of his service station. An exceptional cook, he was known for his pies and chicken and dumplings. His hobbies include flowers, going to auctions and yard sales, and dealing in glass ware. An outgoing person, he loved to make others laugh. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
A Celebration of Life Service will be 1 p.m. on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at the E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel in Amory with Minister Marshall Eubanks, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the Northington-Heard Cemetery in Gattman. Pallbearers will be Johnny Ayres, Ryan Northington, Jim Gaskin, Jerry Fields, Jim Hood, and Conner Holliman. Honorary pallbearers will be Chuck Gaskin, Dr. Dwight McComb, Jackie Burdine, and the staff of Gentiva Hospice.
Survivors include 4 daughters, Dot Ware of West Point, Ann Ayres (Billy Joe) of West Point, Cathy Mitchell of Calhoun City, Judy Northington (Jim) of Gattman; one son, Charles Gaskin (Inge) of Woodland; special friend, Susan Rumley of Amory; 14 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; numerous great great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Effie Gaskin; 3 sisters, one brother; and 2 grandchildren, Barry Deaton and Garland Orman.
Visitation will continue until service time on Tuesday at the funeral home.
