Amory – Leonard Elkin “L. E.” Roberts, 90, died on Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at Oak Tree Manor. Born on March 28, 1924, in Mantachie, he was a son of the late George Alfred and Ina Mae Walton Roberts.
Mr. Roberts attended Palmetto High School. He honorably served in the US Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean War. An entrepreneur, Mr. Roberts started many successful business ventures in advertising, memorial gardens, and training institutes. Gifted in automotive body repair, he worked for McPete’s Chevrolet in Baton Rouge, LA, before retiring. A Christian who loved God, family, and Country, he was of the Baptist faith. Being a strong person who wore many hats in his life, Mr. Roberts did everything with honor and dignity. He enjoyed going to church, gardening, taking care of his fruit trees, reading, cooking, hunting, fishing, and the music genres of Country and Western, Religious, and Ballads.
He is survived by a daughter, Beverly Elaine Harden, Amory; son, John Ladd Roberts, Sr. (Sarah Beth), Denham Springs, LA; brother, Jimmy Dale Roberts (Bobbie), Palmetto; grandchildren, Robbin Leigh Dickerson, John Ladd Roberts, II, Amileigh Roberts, and Clint Michael Roberts; 4 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Agatha Turner, Lee Earl Pettigrew, and Ivonell Tyre.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM, Thursday, May 15 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory with Elder Tim Cunningham officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park, Verona.
Visitation will be from 9 – 10:50 AM, Thursday at the funeral home.
