Amory – Leonard Ray Jones, 86, died on Friday, April 13, 2012 at his residence. Born on May 17, 1925, in Amory, he was the son of the late Reuben D. and Thomas Vernona Fowlkes Jones.
Mr. Jones attended Phillips School in Monroe County and married Daisy McAnally in 1949. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II and The Korean Conflict receiving several medals. He worked in the furniture industry employed by Pullman Couch, Townhouse Penthouse Industries and Kingsport before his retirement. Leonard was a supporter of our Military Troops and proud to have served his country. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, coon hunting and boating with is family. His family and friends were most important to him in his daily life.
He is survived by his wife, Daisy McAnally Jones of Amory; his daughters, Betty Gill (Richard) of Columbus, Nancy Thomas (Dwight) of Jacksonville FL; his son, Dr. Clifford Ray Jones (Dr. Diane) of Fortuna CA; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; special friend, Tommy Best.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Charles Robert ‘Bobby’ Jones; 4 brothers; 4 sisters.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3 PM, Sunday, April 15, 2012 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Steven Ford and Bro. Scott Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Howell Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bobby Carter, Wesley Morgan, Alan Haney, Andy Hathcock, Elijah Hinshaw, Richard Gill, Jimmy Morgan, Jr, Charles McAnally. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Best and J. C. Thompson.
Visitation will be on Saturday, from 5-8pm, at the funeral home.
