Smithville – Lela M. Scott Holland, 81, died on Saturday, December 17, 2011, at her residence. Born on August 21, 1930, in Monroe County, she was a daughter of the late Curtis Lee and Flora Mae Plunkett Scott.
Mrs. Holland attended Sipsey Fork School and graduated from ICC Nursing School. She married William “Bill” Holland on July 29, 1987. For 38 years, she faithfully cared for her patients as an LPN, working at Gilmore Memorial Hospital and part-time in the local nursing homes. Mrs. Holland was Baptist. A hardworking lady, she enjoyed tending to her flower garden. Her life was guided by her mother and her grandmother Scott. Hardworking, loveable, and free-spirited, Mrs. Holland enjoyed being with her grandchildren, crocheting, and watching Gospel Channel 39.
She is survived by her husband of 24 years, William “Bill” Holland, Smithville; daughter, Iva Nell Whitlock (James), Greenwood Springs; son, Joe Cowart (Mary Ruth), Amory; step-daughters, Debbie Harwell (Clifford), Oxford, Pam Bolton, Batesville, and Clara Perkins, Sardis; grandchildren, Michelle Carter (Scott), NeNe Carter (Eddie), Blake Cowart, Jeff Phillips (Tammy), Kenny Phillips (Laurie), Christopher Little, and Elizabeth Little Clements (Dallas); 4 step-grandchildren, Holly Bryum, Cliff Harwell, Will Harwell, and Dylan Bolton; 13 great-grandchildren; 3 step-great-grandchildren; and 2 step-great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Hope Little.
A Celebration of Life Graveside Service will be held at 2 PM, Monday, December 19 at Young Memorial Garden with Bro. Danny Burks officiating. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
Everyone is asked to meet at 1:50 PM, Monday at the cemetery for the graveside service.
