Lela Faye Mills Hinton
Fulton – Lela Faye Mills Hinton, 75, became totally healed when she passed away on August 6, 2023 at The Courtyard Nursing Center in Fulton, MS. She was born on August 22, 1947, to the late Arvis Mills and Louella Hall Mills.
Lela grew up in Fulton and graduated from Itawamba County High School. A woman driven for knowledge, she continued on to ICC where she obtained an Associate Degree in Childhood Development and Education. This was one of her most proud accomplishments in life. Then, her entire career was helping to mold the minds of the children in Lee County as she worked in the school system for many years. Lela was a caring and loving teacher and touched many lives throughout her career in education.
A loving wife and Christian, Lela was a great mother and grandmother. She attended Bethel Baptist Church and along with God she loved her family first. She married her best friend, Romie Hinton, on February 7, 1964 and together they were blessed with three children. Her husband and she were close and liked to spend precious time together. As she saw the impact Alzheimer’s disease has on society, she cared deeply about the fight to cure Alzheimer’s and she supported the Alzheimer’s Association.
Besides her family, she was especially close to Barbara and Margie Faye, Tammy, and the many friends who supported during the trials in her life. In her downtime, besides spending time with family, she liked to watch just about anything on tv. She liked to listen to Gospel music. Lela often times would tell her family “Well, I Guess” whenever they would ask her something which they were hanging on the edge hoping she would approve of.
A special woman who touched so many lives will be missed dearly. Lela’s family will never forget all that she has done for them and all the great memories made.
She is survived by her daughter, Regina Hinton, Dorsey Community; sons, Bill Hinton and Brian Hinton, both of Evergreen Community; grandchildren, Beth Christian, Ami Gonzalez, Austin Hinton, Courtney Haynes, Jordan Hinton, Bobby Frieson, Louella Pannell, and Conner Christian; twelve great-grandchildren; sister, Barbara Weatherford (Mitchell), Cardsville, MS; a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Romie Cleveland Hinton; sister, Wanda Reed; two brothers, Thomas and Gene Mills.
