Smithville – Lee Thompson, 16, died on Sunday, May 25, 2014, in Smithville from injuries received in a four-wheeler accident. Born on May 5, 1998, in Amory, he was a son of Clay Thompson and Rana Capel.

Lee attended Smithville School and was looking forward to reporting to Camp Shelby to finish his GED and join the US Army. A soldier at heart, he was a gun enthusiast and enjoyed being outdoors. Very active in the Youth Group and church retreats, Lee was a member of Pearce Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. Having a big heart, he was passionate about helping people. Outgoing, ambitious, hard-working and a dedicated Christian, Lee enjoyed hunting, fishing, being with people, and football.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his grandparents, Nellie Carter, Smithville and Rachel Capel, Amory; brother, Johnathon Capel, Amory; uncles, Brad Thompson (Tywla), Smithville, Chad Thompson, Smithville, and Edward Hoots, Amory; and great-uncles, Donnie Carter, Smithville, Roger Carter, Amory, and Jackie Carter, Amory.

He was preceded in death by his great-grandfather, Lewis Thompson, and a great-uncle and aunt, Denny and Susan Elam.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10 AM, Wednesday, May 28 at Pearce Chapel Free Will Baptist Church Bro. Van Dale Hudson officiating. Burial will follow in Pearce Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jason Moffett, Colton Moffett, Heath Noe, J. C. Coleman, and Cameron Wardlaw. Honorary pallbearer will be Kendall Thompson.

Visitation will be from 5 – 8PM, Tuesday, May 27 at the funeral home. He will lie in state from 9 AM until the service hour at the church.

Memorials may be given to Pearce Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, 60174 Pearce Chapel Rd., Smithville, MS 38870.
