Lee Miller

Lifetime Amory native and community leader Russell “Lee” Miller, 79, passed away Monday, June 3, 2024 at the Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo, Mississippi, after an extended illness. He was born April 19, 1945 to Hugh William and Nell Wimberley Miller in Amory, who preceded him in death.

Lee was an active and accomplished athlete at Amory High School and participated in all sports. He was a graduate of the Class of 1963 and then attended Itawamba Junior College where he continued to be active in athletics there. In 1970 he graduated from Mississippi State University with a BS Degree in Education.
He married his high school sweetheart and love of his life Dorinda Brown in 1967 and they were lifetime soulmates for 57 years.

Lee had a strong work ethic and was a good provider for his family. His first job after graduation was as a Teacher and Coach for Amory School District and his most exciting and rewarding time there was with the special children in PE. He then worked at Sam Stevens Motors and National Bank of Commerce in Amory. During this time, he served the citizens of Amory as Alderman Ward Three for 14 years. After his employment at NBC, he was appointed Utilities Manger for the City of Amory where he served 14 years until his retirement in 2003. While at this position, he was very active with the Tennessee Valley Authority Public Power Association and North Mississippi Public Power Association serving in numerous capacities. Lee was a Patriot and served in the Mississippi National Guard for 7 years.

Lee was an active member of St Andrews Methodist Church. He is described by those who knew him best as a man who loved people and animals, friendly, fun and full of life. He had a great sense of humor and if you were one of the lucky few, he bestowed on you a “special” nickname. In his free time, he enjoyed spending time with his best friend, Dorinda, on the golf course, hunting and fishing.

While he will be missed by his family and friends, they are comforted knowing he is fully healed and is in the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

He is survived by his wife and best friend, Dorinda Brown Miller, Amory, MS; sister, Nan Miller, Columbus, MS, and a brother, Don Miller, Oxford, MS.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Hugh William and Nell Wimberley Miller, one brother, William Ray Miller, and nephew, Hugh William Miller II.
