Amory – Vivian Laverne Haley Phillips, 74, died on Friday, January 31, 2014, at her residence under the care of Community Hospice. Born on October 8, 1939, in Memphis, she was the daughter of the late Johnnie Miller & Vivian Obedia Justice Haley.
Mrs. Phillips moved to Amory in 1955 and graduated from Smithville High School. On June 20, 1964, she married Harold Phillips. Having a heart of gold whose spirit uplifted everyone she met, Mrs. Phillips was a homemaker who loved watching children, talking on the phone with family and friends, doing laundry and hanging it on the line, and making chocolate chip cookies and chocolate cakes for family and friends. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and enjoyed prayer time with her family. Mrs. Phillips enjoyed watching church services and detective shows on television, and Gospel, Christmas, and Country music.
Survivors include her husband, Harold Phillips, and daughters, Alice Oliver and Candace Holloway, of Amory; grandchildren, Cassie Phillips and Christie Phillips of Amory; sister, Alice Crabtree (Gene), Jacksonville, FL; brother, Johnnie Haley (Lynn), Amory; several nieces & nephews; and special friends, Lori Hayes and family, Phil Mann, Lois Herron, and the Mann family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Haley Phillips.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 4 PM, Sunday, February 2 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Jesse Betts officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Matthew Justice, Rick Edwards, Phil Mann, Gene Crabtree, and Johnnie Haley.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Saturday at the funeral home.
