– Addie Laverne Riley Hester, 82, died on Thursday, December 1, 2011, at Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center. Born on January 31, 1929, in New Chapel Community of Nettleton, she was a daughter of the late Edgar Lyle and Pansy Lee Coggin Riley.On December 14, 1946, Laverne married Warner Junior Hester. She was a graduate of Nettleton High School, Class of 1947. Receiving Jesus Christ as her personal Savior on August 22, 1972, Laverne lived her life to the fullest and was dedicated to serving others. She was the dietician for Amory Elementary School for 27 years. A charter member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church, Laverne helped organize the Adult Choir. Faithfully serving her church over 50 years, she was a former secretary-treasurer of the United Methodist Women, a past-president of the Crusaders Sunday School class, and for several years served as Superintendent of the Kindergarten Sunday School department. Laverne was a volunteer with Meals-on-Wheels, was an avid fan of Amory Panther sports, loved Mississippi State and Ole Miss sports, and enjoyed sewing and cooking. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Warner J. Hester, Amory; daughters, Dale Leech (Johnny) and Debbie Palmer (Larry) of Amory; grandchildren, John Leech (Christe), Tupelo, Collie Jo Hill (Stacy), and Brian and Lynn Palmer, of Amory; great-grandchildren, Gabby and Mason Hill, Amory, and John Harris and Addison Cate Leech, Tupelo; brothers, Mitchell Riley, Amory, Thomas L. Riley (Pat), and Paul Riley (Francis) of Nettleton; sister-in-law, Sue Riley, Lakeland, FL; brother-in-law, Arlin Hester, Hulaco, AL; and several nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Gertrude “Sis” Davis (Dick); brothers, Eugene Riley (Irma Mae) and Herman M. Riley; and brothers-in-law, Huey Hester (Minnie), Walter Hester (Audrey), and Albert Hester (Bert).A Celebration of the Life of Laverne Hester will be held at 3 PM, Saturday, December 3, 2011, at St. Andrews United Methodist Church with Rev. Aubrey Boren, Rev. Tim Sisk, Bro. Dudley Nash, and Rev. Mack Riley officiating. Burial will follow in Haughton Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Billy Glasgow, Rayford Jones, Jim Dye, Rev. Gus Shelly, Thomas Griffith, Ralph Salters, and James Burrow.
