Amory – Lavern K. Sandlin, 88, died on Monday, February 24, 2014, at Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center. Born on December 16, 1925, in Monroe County, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Josie Pennington Kennedy.
Mrs. Sandlin attended Oak Hill School. She married Hamilton Burley Sandlin on November 15, 1941. Working as a seamstress, she retired from Glenn Manufacturing. Strong in her faith, she was a member of Unity Baptist Church and attended Faith Baptist Church for the past few years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, her dog, Maggie, watching Gospel Channel 15 in Fulton, listening to Gospel music, working in her yard, and quilting.
She is survived by her sons, Herschel Sandlin (Juanita), Roy Lee Sandlin (Rita), Larry Sandlin (Mary), Edward Sandlin, and J. R. Sandlin (Marty), all of Amory; 9 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and nephew, Steven Kennedy.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband on August 14, 2000; a grandson, Wayne Sandlin; and a granddaughter, Donna Sandlin Waycaster.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 PM, Monday, February 25 at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. H. V. Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Hatley Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Raymond Clark, Barney Vann, Browney Vann, Nathan Waycaster, Ronnie Boozer, Jordan Sandlin, Austin Morris, and Randall Waycaster.
Visitation will be from Noon to 1:50 PM, Tuesday at the funeral home.
