Mrs. Lavern Watson Latham, 89, passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. Born in Detroit, Alabama, on January 4, 1930, she was one of the children born to Flavous and Vera Jane Watson.
She attended Byrd Community School in Detroit, Alabama. On November 27, 1946, she married James Edward Latham. Her career spanned 33 years as an employee of Kroger and she retired in May of 1990. Mrs. Latham was affectionaly known as “Nana” by many and she was an independent, outspoken, and caring woman. She was compassionate and had a wonderful sense of humor. Lavern was a devoted and loyal member of the Amory Church of Christ. She dedicated her life to the Lord and she loved her church family.
Lavern had a “green thumb” and could grow anything. Her yard was immaculate and her garden always produced a bountiful array of vegetables. She was the happiest when she was outside whether it be gardening, mowing the yard or feeding the ducks. All of her family and friends will miss her smiling face and the love she had for everyone. The memories she left will be cherished forever.
Laverne Latham is survived by her daughter, Denise Crosby(Lynn); grandchildren, Chase Pruett and Dustin Goodwin (Bre Anna); sister, Eleanor Jackson (Dexter); brother, Vernon Watson; her dear friend, Mary Morgan.
In addition to her parents and husband, James Edward Latham, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Verlon Watson, Barbara Jamerson, and Evone Patterson.
Funeral services for Mrs. Latham will be at 1:00 PM, on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home with Mr. Phillip Hathcock and Mr. Chase Pruett officiating. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Levi Northington, Cody Watson, Dylan Young, Van Hoots, Tommy Fredrick, and Doug Fredrick. Honorary pallbearers will be Dave Johnson and Donald Plunkett.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 11:30 pm until 1:00 pm.
