Mr. Larry Gene “Red” Smith, 66 of Baldwyn, MS died on Friday, September 9, 2016 at Rush Hospital in Meridian, MS. He was born on January 26, 1950 in Monroe County and was a son of the late Leon and Pemeilar Lewis Smith. Larry was originally from Amory, moving to Baldwyn in recent years. “Red” was a member of the Grace Chapel Baptist church in Aberdeen. He attended school in Smithville, MS. Larry was a retired employee of Monroe County serving in waste management.
Larry was a jokester. He especially loved telling corny jokes and making people laugh. He enjoyed watching westerns and the National Geographic Channel. In his spare time he also loved to listen to Gospel music.
He was a people person. He loved to gather with family and friends to eat as well as to tell each and every one about the Lord. A wonderful friend, he never asked for anything in return.
Larry’s family was his world. He adored his children and would do anything for them as well as his other family members.
Survivors are his daughters: Jennifer Curtis (Ronnie Bradley), Guntown; Ashley Smith, Baldwyn; Golden Smith, Columbia; step-daughter: Patricia Wilbanks (Dale), Amory; 3 sisters: Geraldine Rowell, Aberdeen; Dorothy Reeves, Bartahatchie, MS; Glenda Honeycutt (Dale), Aberdeen; one brother: Tony Smith (Shirley), Smithville; one grandchild: Paul Buckner IV (Alisha), Amory ; one great grandchild: Conner Buckner, Amory; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Peggy Ivory and a brother, James Smith.
Funeral Services for “Red” Smith will be on Monday, September 12, 2016 at 2:00 PM. at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory. Bro. Robert Earl Fowlkes and Bro. Ray Parker will be officiating. Burial will follow in the New Hope Cemetery, Aberdeen. Pallbearers will be: Ricky Reeves, Wayne Reeves, Jimmy Reeves, Jesse Reeves, Dale Honeycutt, Jr., Stanley Ostrowski, Nathan Smith, Van Smith, and Jason Chance.
Visitation will be on Sunday, September 11, 2016 from 5 – 8 PM at the funeral home.
