Lana Kay Spann Phelps
Amory – Lana Kay Phelps, 60, a woman who loved the Lord, became totally healed on Tuesday, November 5, 2024. She was born on November 27, 1963, in Amory, MS to the late Benjamin Franklin Spann and Anne Lousie Ausborn Spann.
Lana grew up in Monroe County and graduated from Smithville High School. A smart young woman, she continued her education at both the University of Phoenix and a cosmetology school. She obtained a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and also studied graphics design and accounting. A woman with varied talents, she worked at Star Printing and was an Owner of the Good News Messenger. She married Michael Daniel Phelps on December 31, 1985 and they were blessed with two daughters.
A Christian, she loved Gospel music and had sung many times on TV with a local Fulton news station. She was loving, kind, caring and would do just about anything for anybody. Lana loved her family and some of her closest friends were Debbie Darlene, the late Jane Ausborn, and Sherri Pace. She enjoyed listening to country music, she liked making jewelry, watching tv and shopping online.
Although her presence will be missed dearly, her family can have peace knowing that she is with her Lord and Savior. All the memories made through the years will be cherished by her family and friends.
She is survived by her daughters, Kayla Plunkett (Tony), Aberdeen, Leanne Sanders (Mark), Amory; grandchildren, Tonya, Savannah, Hunter, Conner, Anthony Plunkett; Kayden, Madyson, Dalton, Serenity, and Jeremy Sanders; brothers, Lloyd Spann (Pam), Amory, Leslie Spann (Cathy), Smithville; sister-in-law, Nina Spann, Smithville; a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Phelps; sister, Linda Thompson; brother, Larry Spann; and a granddaughter, Karley Jade Sanders.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 pm, on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory, MS with Minister Philip Hathcock officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery, Hatley, MS with pallbearers being Eric Spann, Jared Spann, Brandon Spann, Justin House, Ivan Ware, Kayden Sanders, and Sabrien Canyon. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 12:00 pm until the service hour at the funeral home in Amory, MS.
