Gattman – Lamon Bernard ‘L.B.’ or ‘Lucky’ Wright, 89, passed away on Monday, July 25, 2016, at River Place Nursing Center, Amory. Born on October 17, 1926, in Becker, he was a son of the late Oscar Verdo and Martha Pallentine ‘Pally’ Maxey Wright.
L.B. attended Becker School. In his younger years, he enjoyed spending Summers with family in Wenatchee, WA. He honorably served in the US Navy during World War II and in the US Air Force during the Korean War. A hardworker, L.B. was a long-time diesel mechanic for Scribner Equipment Company and traveled all over the country and the world. Retiring in 1989, he was one who enjoyed work and staying busy. For many years after retirement, he was a night watchman for United Furniture until 2012.
One who was strong in his faith, L.B. loved the Lord with all his heart and soul. He began everyday saying The Lord’s Prayer, and praying for his family, friends, and for guidance and wisdom throughout the day. He was a member of Gattman United Methodist Church and he deeply loved his family. Friendly, kind-hearted, generous in giving everything away, Lucky never met a stranger and was always happy, laughing, and having fun. Having a huge heart, he was passionate about children. An avid Alabama football fan, he treasured the hat Bear Bryant removed and gave to him one day in Sulligent. He will be missed dearly by all that knew and loved him.
Survivors include his caregivers, Ed Wright, Sharon Hathcock and John Cox of Amory; multiple nieces and nephews; step-son, Terry Wright, Sulligent, AL; and numerous friends.
