Hatley- L.C. Jones, 84, died Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at his residence. Born October 7, 1928 in Splunge, he was a son of Lowell Cooper and Latchie Viola Hathcock Jones. He met and married Barbara Blackah Blackwood, formerly of England, in 1980, while they were working in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
Upon graduation from Smithville High School, he served his country in the US Military and attended University of Mississippi, graduating with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. His career spanned over 40 years with the Frisco Railroad, working as a Civil Engineer and Bridge Foreman across many states, where he made numerous friends. He also attended Shiloh Methodist Church. A man who loved the beauty of the outdoors, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening, collecting antiques and Indian Rocks, woodworking and being with his bird dog, Sam.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Blackah Jones; daughters, Sherry Howell (Roland), Hatley and Terrie Duncan, Detroit, AL; son, Jerry Jones (Sandra), Oak Hill Community; step daughters, Jane Massey and Jill Branch; step son, Hugh Blackwood; brother, Reggie Jones (Julia), Oak Hill; grandchildren, Jennifer Robinson, Randy Duncan, Rebecca Horne, Kristy Duncan, Cindy Miller, Tammy Sikes, Amy Red and Makenzi Glasgow; great grandchildren, Hunter Robinson, Tyler Duncan, Mason Miller, Zoey Horne, Hannah Robinson, Logan Miller, Wyatt Horne and Hailey Robinson; a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Vernie Gilliand Hoskins and brothers, Burley Gilliand, Artis (Red) Jones and Garvis Jones.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11am, Friday, February 21, 2014 at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory. Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Clint Horne, Glen Jones, Tony Shackelford, Matt Miller, Kerry Sykes and David Jones.
Visitation will be Thursday evening at the funeral home from 5-8pm.
