Kenneth Hill
Becker—Kenneth Dumont Hill, 88, died on Thursday, February 14, 2013 at the Oaktree Plantation in Amory. Born on August 23, 1924 in Quincy, he was a son of the late Kibry Dumont and Winona Mae Dabbs Hill. A 1942 graduate of Becker High School, he attended Mississippi State University where he majored in engineering. While a student at MSU, he was drafted into the U.S. Army. Serving in the U.S. Army, he also was in the Army Air Corp in Italy, France, Holland, Belgium, Prague, and Northern Africa. He married Margaret O’Nita “Nita” Evans on August 5, 1943. Following the war, he returned to Mississippi State and later taught mathematics at Becker High School and coached girls’ basketball. He also farmed with his father and was a supervisor at Walker Manufacturing. A dedicated member of the Becker Baptist Church, he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was later honored as Deacon Emeritus. A family man and dedicated Christian, he enjoyed his family, friends, and gospel music.
A Celebration of Life Service will be 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at the E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel in Amory with Bro. Randy Spencer, Bro. Henry Ward, and Bro. Christopher Waddell officiating. Burial will be in the Haughton Memorial Park.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Margaret O’Nita “Nita” Hill of Becker; two daughters, Gayle Hill Ward (Henry) of Locust, NC and Janet Hill Gullett (Bill) of Starkville; 6 grandchildren, Jennifer Waddell, Scott Ward (Lauren), Kathy Ward Barnhardt, Michele Quinn (Michael), Foster Gullett (Laura), and Elizabeth Gullett; son-in-law, Hershel Sandlin (Juanita) of Becker; 8 great grandchildren, Matthew Waddell, Christopher Waddell, Jessica Gruesbeck, Chas Gruesbeck, Shelby Munson, Graham Ward, Kirby Quinn, and Abbey Quinn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kirby and Winona Hill; brother, Edsel Lamon Hill; daughter, Kay Hill Sandlin; and grandchildren, Hershel W. Sandlin and Jamie Lann.
Pallbearers will be Bill Gullett, Hershel Sandlin, Scott Ward, Foster Gullett, Matthew Waddell, and Bobby Hill.
Visitation will be 11 until service time on Saturday at the funeral home.
