Amory – Kenton ONeil “Ken” Vaughn, 67, died on Wednesday, April 5, 2011, at Gilmore Memorial RMC, Amory. Born on April 20, 1943, in Amory, he was a son of the late Oscar and Nell Egger Vaughn.
Ken was a graduate of Amory High School, Class of 1961; IJC; and Mississippi State University, Class of 1965. He married the love of his life, Joeann Pavlick, on July 23, 1967. A retired secondary mathematics educator, Ken taught at Houston High School; Shivers Middle School, Aberdeen; and Hatley High School. He enjoyed sharing his philosophy with his students that learning can be fun and was excited when hearing that former students had done well with their lives. A very faithful member of Amory Church of Christ, where he was known as the “Candy Man;” Ken always put Jesus first; others second; and himself last. A selfless and generous man, he strived to do as much good as possible with which God had blessed him. Ken enjoyed fishing, working in his shop, helping others and making people smile. During his battle with cancer, his strength and infectious attitude became an inspiration to others who were experiencing similar issues and the same type of struggles.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Joeann Vaughn, Amory; brother, Eddy (Joyce) Vaughn, Ackerman; niece, Ramona (Toby) Stanford, Crystal River, FL; nephews, Richard Vaughn, Saltillo; Hunter (Angel) Vaughn, Starkville; and Brad Vaughn, Ackerman; aunt, Ernestine Droke, Amory; uncle, Bobby Egger, Memphis; sister-in-law, Willistene (Earnest) Mitchell, Amory; great-nieces, Kari (Bryan) Cravens and Rebecca Stanford; and great-nephews, Josh (Casey) Stanford; Jaxon Vaughn; Colby Vaughn; Taylor Vaughn; Kent Vaughn; and Andrew Stanford.
