Smithville – Kaynettle “Kay” McKinney Dobbs, 59, began her new life in Heaven on Wednesday, November 24, 2021. Born on March 6, 1962, in Aberdeen, MS, she was a daughter to Theodis McKinney and Earnstine Davis McKinney.
Kay grew up in a large family with four other siblings in Monroe County and attended school in Smithville, MS. She went to work at a young age and had a great work ethic. Kay was a talented seamstress who worked at Monroe Trouser in Smithville as well as Glenn Manufacturing in Greenwood Springs, MS. Later in life, she worked as a caregiver for the elderly providing home health and enabling loved ones to stay at home. Her sweet, kind personality enabled her to give the best care for those who employed her. God blessed her with two children and five grandchildren and she was proud of them all.
A member of St. Paul Methodist Church in Smithville, MS, Kay loved the Lord and enjoyed listening Gospel music. She would give you shirt off her back and do anything for you if she knew you were in need. A true Christian, she lived her faith daily and it showed as she loved all she came in contact with. One of her best friends and soulmate, with whom she shared many fond memories, was Jimmy Wayne Terrell. She was also blessed with close friends Shirley Faye Morrow, Kevin Beeks, and Elizabeth Denson. Kay enjoyed shopping and eating out often with them as well as just being around each other. In addition to Gospel, Kay really like Blues music. As she got older, she became more passionate about curing Breast Cancer and Lupus, as these diseases had affected her life so much.
Her family and friends feel as though there is a great reunion taking place with her son in Heaven. They will miss her dearly yet they know that she has ultimately been divinely healed. Kay’s legacy of love will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Unyunga McKinney, Tupelo; parents, Theodis and Earnstine Davis McKinney, Smithville; grandchildren, Jay Smith, Jabril Smith, and Orlandria Smith, Zay Dobbs, and Emma Kilgore; sisters, Cynthia Wax (Benjamin), Starkville, and Bridgette Glass, Sulligent, AL; brothers, Darrin McKinney (Genise), Mantachie, and Stevie McKinney (Deborah), Tupelo; significant other, Jimmy Wayne Terrell; a host of nieces and nephews.
