Kay Lurlene Dacus

Tishomingo – Kay Dacus, 74, passed away on April 16, 2022, at her sister’s residence in Lamar, MS. She was born on September 25, 1947, in Memphis, TN to the late Fred L. Dacus and Lenora Ratliff Dacus.

Kay grew up in a large family, with nine other siblings, in Shelby County and graduated from Bartlett High School. She began working in furniture manufacturing in both Wren and Pontotoc. Kay specifically worked as a pattern cutter and was not afraid of hard work. Later in life, she attended some college courses and also she became a school bus driver where she enjoyed getting to know the children. She was quiet, loving, supportive, and caring and always a great provider for her family.

God blessed Kay with four children whom she took great joy in watching them grow and flourish. She attended Tishomingo Baptist Church in Tishomingo, MS and the ladies group at church meant the world to her. They often played games, sang and traveled to the park while solving all the world’s problems. Besides the ladies group, one of her best friends was her sister, Karen Gardner, with whom she shared many wonderful memories. She also had a furry friend, “Lucky” who was close to her heart.

A woman with drive for living life to the fullest, Kay also drove cars fast for fun. She loved racing cars and her favorite racing car was “powder puff”. She also liked to horse trail riding and just be outside where she could admire God’s creations and beautiful flowers. Native American Indian jewelry always fascinated her and she learned a lot about their heritage and was real interested in the Children’s Home located in Wyoming. Kay liked to listen to country music and just spend time with her family and friends.

Her family and friends will miss her dearly yet they know that she is at peace and with her Savior.

Left behind to treasure her memories are her daughter, Carrie Lynn Huddleston, Gasport, NY; sons, Robert Huddleston, Tishomingo, MS, David Huddleston (Crystal), Cherokee, Al, and Johnny Huddleston (Amber), Hertford, NC; her mother, Lenora Ratliff Dacus , Amory; 11 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; sisters, Janet Peaks (Jerry), Brownsville, TN, Delores Griffin (Billy), Niceville, FL, Sherry Taylor (Mike), Lamar, MS, Shilo Barber (Larry) Springfield, GA, Darla Lockhart (Kenneth), Amory, and Karen Steen (Allen), Verona, MS; brother, David Dacus, Plantersville, MS.
