Aberdeen – Katie Beatrice Daniel Garrett, 98, died on Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at Pioneer Community Hospital. Born on June 16, 1912, in New Albany, she was a daughter of the late Smith and Addie Jane Daniel.
Mrs. Garrett married Noble F. Garrett on April 16, 1934. They moved to Amory in 1942. Retiring from the City of Amory Water and Electric Department, Mrs. Garrett worked as a teller and cashier and always greeted everyone with a friendly smile. She was a member of First Baptist Church and LLL Club. Loving life, Mrs. Garrett’s family, especially her grandchildren, church and serving and helping others were important to her. An encourager, she enjoyed young people, crocheting, sports (she was the Bingo champion at Personal Place), raising flowers, and baking.
She is survived by a daughter, Barbara G. Kendrick, Northport, AL; son, Billy F. (Patricia) Garrett, Darracutt; grandchildren, Laddie (Debora) Kendrick, Lynn K. Kirkley, Evelyn G. Jones, Barbara Mae (Rex) Shackelford, Kevin G. Kendrick, and Garrett Jones; great-grandchildren, Guin D. (Sarah) Kendrick, Seth (Leslie) Kendrick, April Strawbridge, and Ryan N. Kirkley; great-great-grandchildren, Jacob Ryan Deese, Lexie Bradberry, Sawyer Kendrick, and Mary Ella Kendrick; and nieces and nephews, Jack Coley, Mary K. Deen, Shelby (Bill) Eldridge, and Ronnie (Saundra) Daniel. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Noble F. Garrett in 1988; son-in-law, Lushen Kendrick; sisters, Mary Vance Coley and Estelle Parker; and brother, Aubrey Daniel.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 AM, Friday, May 13, 2011, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory with Dr. Allen Simpson officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Garrett Jones, Guin Kendrick, Seth Kendrick, Kevin Kendrick, Ronnie Daniel, and Rex Shackelford.
Visitation will continue until the service hour on Friday.
