Smithville – Kathleen B. Montgomery, 87, passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2015, at NMMC, Tupelo. Born on October 9, 1927, in Becker, she was a daughter of the late Marion and Jalie Blackwood Best.
Mrs. Montgomery attended Becker School. She married Willie L. Montgomery on July 3, 1954. After working for Monroe Trousers, Mrs. Montgomery retired after 13 years as a housekeeper with Gilmore Memorial Hospital. She was a member of North Side Baptist Church, Detroit, AL. One who loved being with her family, Mrs. Montgomery enjoyed cooking, sewing, and listening to Southern Gospel music.
Survivors include her son, Richard Montgomery (Sherry), Smithville; special son, John Austin, Smyrna, TN; daughter, Claira Smith (Tommie), Amory; brother, Tommie Best, Smithville; grandchildren, Daniel Montgomery (Stephanie), Smithville, Barry Smith (Patricia), of Hatley, Portia Young (Steve), Amory, Terry Smith (Deandra), Smithville, and Kevin Smith of Hatley; 4 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces & nephews; special friends, Mildred Tate and all the nurses and staff at The Meadows.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Margeen Sanderson, Icy Jackson, and Julia Pace; brothers, Allen, Paul, and Roy Best.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM, Monday, June 29, 2015, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Smithville Chapel, with Bro. Wesley Stephens officiating. Burial will follow in Harmony Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jim and Ed Best; Barry and Terry Smith; John Swartzendruber; and Steve Young. Honorary pallbearer will be John Austin.
Visitation will be from 5 - 8 PM, Sunday at the funeral home.
