Davis Starkville – Katherine Griffin Davis, 90, died on Monday, December 19, 2011, at Starkville Manor. Born on March 17, 1921, in Monroe County, she was a daughter of the late Willard VanBuren and Villa Brasfield Griffin.Mrs. Davis was a graduate of Smithville High School, Class of 1939. From 1953 until retiring in 1991, she worked as an inspector with Monroe Trousers. Guided by her faith, Mrs. Davis was an active member of Smithville United Methodist Church, where she served as the Sunday School treasurer, Communion steward, and was a member of the Joel Davis Sunday School class and the Mayflowers. A very giving lady who was always smiling and doing for others, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride-and-joy. A second mother to many, she enjoyed reading, gardening, canning, and quilting. She is survived by her sons, Jerry Davis (Sherry), Columbus and Harry B. Davis, Hamilton; daughter-in-law, Kathleen Davis, Smithville; grandchildren, Melissa Boleman, Candace Gibson (Jeffrey), Greg Davis, Jennifer Smith (Donnie), and Elizabeth Simpson (Jason); 8 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur Andrew Davis; son, Joel Davis; sister, Jean Slack; and brothers, Robert, Junior, and Kenneth Griffin.A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 AM, Wednesday, December 21 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Sammy Washburn and Bro. Charles Coggins officiating. Burial will follow in Smithville Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Gibson, Donnie Smith, Jason Simpson, Paul Morrow, Boosie Leech, Phil Goodwin, Mike Fikes, and Phillip Goodwin.
