Julia Evelyn Rainey

Tupelo – Julia Evelyn Rainey, 82, finished her service here on earth and began her new life in Heaven, reunited with family, on Sunday, December 31, 2023. She was born on December 15, 1941, in Amory, Mississippi to the late Russell Paul and Mary Evelyn Myers Rainey.

Julia graduated from Amory High School and immediately went to St. Dominic’s School of Nursing in Jackson, Mississippi where she graduated with honors. Upon her graduation from nursing school, Julia was an RN at St. Dominic’s Hospital for a short time before joining the staff at the VA Hospital. Sometime during her career at the V.A., she went back to school at William Carey College where she obtained her Bachelor’s of Science Degree and was a member of the Sigma Thema Tau Honor Society. Julia remained at the V. A. Hospital for the remainder of her career, making many advancements while there. She retired as the Head of the Intensive Care Cardiac Unit.

It was her life’s mission to devote her time and energy to others, helping and nursing them back to good health. She was a kind and gentlehearted person who cared for patients and pets with the same amount of amazing compassion. Her faith was very strong and her great relationship with God was evident to anyone who met her. She was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church and she loved her church family. Julia was a true servant to so many throughout her career as a nurse and she spent her life helping those who couldn’t’ help themselves.

In her free time, she enjoyed volunteering at animal shelters and always made time to help animals in need. She was a member of both national and local organizations that helped animals of all kinds. She was blessed with many friends through her lifetime and Lucrecia Kidd and Ann Peoples were some of her closest friends. She loved her family and the Lord and there is no doubt she is at peace with her Savior.

She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Left behind to treasure the memories of her are her nephew, Brent Rainey, Tupelo, MS; and niece, Michelle Younker (Kip), Southaven, MS; sister-in-law, Jo Rainey, Amory.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Russell “Slats” and Evelyn Rainey; and her brother, William “Billy” Rainey.
