Amory – Joye Sugg Hester, 87, died on Thursday, May 30, 2013, at Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center. Born on January 1, 1926, on the Sugg farm in Monroe County, she was a daughter of the late John David and Ettie Jane Parham Sugg.
Joye graduated from Amory High School in 1945. After graduating from Teletype School in Birmingham, she was employed by Western Union in New York, NY, and later by American Airlines at LaGuardia Airport in communications. Joye worked many years in the medical field in insurance and as a medical transcriptionist. She was employed by NMMC in Radiology and in Amory by Murfee Clinic, P & S Clinic, Dr. B. O. Moore, and Dr. Eddie Yoe. Joye was a member of Amory Church of Christ. Loving her church family, she worked with the Women’s Prayer Ministry and the Visitation Program. Joye enjoyed the outdoors, reading, sports, going to the Wellness Center, and flying to California and Florida to visit family.
She is survived by her daughters, Cynthia H. Barnes (Bill), Fort Myers, FL, and Laurie H. Kunsman (Gary), San Jose, CA; son, Danny Hester (Cindy), Amory; grandchildren, Chandler Odom, Len Odom, and Anna Hester; great-grandchildren, Christian Dunne and John Carter Coker; special nieces, Joyce Gray and Emily S. Morris; and numerous other nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Ethel Gray, Ruth Westbrook, Josephine Davis, Johnie West, Carolyn Sugg, and Mary Nell Sugg; brother, Halden Sugg; and special niece, Judy Sullivan.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 PM, Sunday, June 2 at Amory Church of Christ with Mr. Philip Hathcock and Mr. Derek Maranto officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Larry, David, Randle, and Randy Gray; Andy Hood; and Jimmy Sullivan. Honorary pallbearers will be Garland Anderson, Doyce Britt, Tim Dickerson, Rick Lockridge, Jerry Cooper, Paul Dickerson, and Jimmy Vaughan.
Visitation will be from 5 – 7 PM, Saturday at the funeral home.
