Joyce Umfress

Hatley – Helen Joyce Camp Umfress, 89, met her Savior face to face on Thursday, April 28, 2022. She was born on July 28, 1932, in Amory, Mississippi to the late Verlon Camp and Eula Thompson Camp.

Joyce grew up in Monroe County and graduated from Smithville High School. She went to work at an early age in the garment manufacturing business where she was a seamstress at Amory Garment and Red Cap Manufacturing. She was a selfless, kind hearted woman, who didn’t mind working hard to help her family. Joyce married the love of her life, Kelly Arnold Umfress, and together they were blessed with two children, three grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren. Joyce would do anything for anyone in need and through the years, she was humble and set a great example of love and kindness for her family.

A God fearing woman, Joyce was a longtime member of Hatley Missionary Baptist Church. She enjoyed listening to and singing gospel music. A kind and passionate Christian, she loved the Lord and lived out her faith daily. In her free time, she liked to cook, providing nourishment for her family and friends. She enjoyed collecting tasty recipes and spoiling her grandchildren.

Joyce was a wonderful mother, loving grandmother and great grandma. Her family calls themselves blessed because of the many years she gave them a loving and caring home. She is going to be missed dearly, yet she would point anyone, who tried to praise her, to God, for she knew where all the credit was due. She will be missed dearly.

Joyce is survived by her daughter, Brenda Joyce Doyle (David), Hatley; son, David Umfress, Hatley; grandchildren, Adam Doyle (Leah), Dustin Doyle (Whitney), and Julie Benson (Terry); great-grandchildren, Sierra, Kirsten, Alexis, Anthony, Reese, Ava Claire, Ryan and Jacob; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kelly Arnold Umfress; a sister, Jean Weaver; two brothers, Murl Camp and Robert Camp.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, May 1, 2022, at 2:00 pm at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory with Bro. Jarad Conatser and Bro. David Laman officiating.
