Joyce E. Thompson Towery

Amory – Joyce E. Thompson Towery, 83, gained her wings on Tuesday, October 11, 2022. Joyce was born on October 22, 1938 in Monroe County, MS to the late Denton Thompson and Audrey Mae Lloyd Thompson.

Joyce grew up in Monroe County. She married Odis L. Mason in April of 1955 and they had 5 children together. Later she married W.C. Towery in May 2000 and was married for 22 years.

A loving caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, they affectionately called her “Nana”. Caring for all of her children and grandchildren led her to her career of a nurse’s aid. She worked in the medical field for many years. Prior to becoming a nurse’s aid, she worked in the garment industry.

She knew and loved the Lord and studied His word. Having been baptized at an early age, she instilled in her children the importance of honoring and loving God. Her family meant the world to her and her grandchildren were her delight. She would do anything for them.

A giving and kind woman, in her free time, she liked to work in her yard tending to her flowers which was yellow roses. She loved to ride around the country roads to see the beauty of nature. When at home, she loved to feed the hummingbirds and watch them as they flew away. She was an animal lover and fed any animal that came up to her home.

In her spare time, Joyce loved to listen to music especially to songs by Elvis and Gospel music. Her favorite hymn was Amazing Grace. One of the songs that she always sung her children was “Puff, the Magic Dragon”. If she could have a home of her dreams, she would have built a log cabin.

Thankful for the wonderful memories, guidance and love through the years, her family and friends have comfort knowing that she is at peace. They will always cherish times with her and never forget her.

She is survived by her Daughters: Pamela Viitala and husband Daniel, Dexter, MI, Sindy Northington and husband Brett, Amory, Susan Logan and husband Steve, Amory; Son Dennis J. Mason, Antioch, IL; Daughter-in-law, Charlotte Mason, Fulton; Grandchildren: James Jr. and wife Dawn, Jeremy and wife Aerial, Nicholas, Matthew, Ami and husband Tim, Adam and wife Andrea, Karelia and husband Spenser, Katerina and husband Andrew, Jared, Josiah and wife Darrien, Helen and husband Michael, Chasitie, Jamie and husband Caleb, Christopher and wife Tonya, Krystal and husband David, David and wife Anne, Chris and wife Sierra; Great-grandchildren: James III, Kierstalyn, Jocelyn, Kaitlyn, Anna, Aidan, Miles, Brittney, Jaxson, Dawson, Emily, Abby, Mason, Shelby, Taylor, Jerimiah, Mealonie, Waylon, Paetyn, Adalynn, and Jenson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, son, James L. Mason, Great-Grandchildren, Matthew Northington and Mable Joy Fellers, sister, Helen Lindsey; brother, James Doyle Thompson.

Memorial Services for Joyce Towery will be held on at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home on Saturday morning, October 15, 2022 at 11:00 AM with Steve Logan officiating.

Visitation for Joyce will be on Saturday morning from 10:00 AM until the service hour at 11:00 AM.

Memorials can be given in her memory to North Boulevard Christian Church Amory, MS
