Joy A. Sweeney
Amory – Joy Ann Sweeney, 80, passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2017, at her residence in Amory, MS. Born on January 20, 1937, in Houston, MS she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Lottie Edwards.
Joy attended S. D. Lee High School, in Columbus, MS. On December 24, 1963, she married the love of her life, Robert J. Sweeney and together they were blessed with children. Joy enjoyed working at home and she also worked at United Technical Industries, in Columbus as well as at McDonalds in Amory, MS. If one asked her, she would tell you that the biggest accomplishment in her life was successfully raising her children and caring for her family.
She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and she was a very honest person whom respected other people’s feelings. Joy loved to travel to car shows. She and her husband had a passion for automobiles and they owned two show cars themselves. In her free time, Joy liked to listen to country music and work crossword puzzles. She delighted in planting and growing flowers yet her family gave her the most joy in her life. She will be missed by all that knew her yet her memories will live on in their hearts.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Robert J. Sweeney, Amory; daughter, Cheryl H. Jordan (Bobby), Leesburg, PA; sons, Michael Harris, Michigan, Terry Sweeney (Janet), Booneville, MS, Joe Sweeney, Amory; grandchildren, Brooke Sweeney and Lexi Clark; a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Corrine Edwards and Miriam Nabors.
Her Funeral Service will be at 2 PM, Tuesday, May 9 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory, with Bro. R.D. Cline and Bro. Leslie Grant officiating. Burial will follow in Haughton Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be her family and friends.
Visitation will be on Monday from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home.
