Amory – Josephine “Josie” Sugg Davis, 86, died on Friday, October 29, 2010, at Gilmore Memorial RMC. Born on March 18, 1924, in Hatley, she was a daughter of the late John David & Ettie Jane Parham Sugg.
A lifelong resident of Amory, Mrs. Davis was a graduate of Hatley High School. She worked in quality control at Amory Garment before retiring. She was a member of Amory Church of Christ. Very energetic, Mrs. Davis saw life through rose-colored glasses and had a special love for children. She enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, sewing, cooking and listening to hymns.
She is survived by her daughter, Emily S. (Bubba) Morris, Cleveland; son, Andy J. (Barbara) Hood, Amory; sisters, Joye Hester and Johnie West, both of Amory; grandchildren, Jennifer (Bobby) Tickner, Krista (Paul) Andy, Matthew Hood and Miranda Gray; great-grandchildren, Robert, George, Adron, Coleman, Haley, Shane, Isaac and Allison; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Drennon D. Davis; sisters, Ethel Gray, Ruth Westbrook, Mary Nell Sugg and Carolyn Sugg; and a brother, Haldon Sugg.
A graveside service for Josephine “Josie” Davis will be held at 3:30 PM, Sunday in Masonic Cemetery with Mr. Philip Hathcock and Mr. Tim West officiating. Pallbearers will be Randle, Larry, David and Randy Gray, Dan Hester and Tim West.
Visitation will be from 2 – 3:15 PM at the funeral home on Sunday. Everyone is asked to meet at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Amory Church of Christ, 1005 Blvd. Dr., Amory, MS 38821, Alzheimer’s Association, P. O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011, or a charity of choice.
