Joseph Brandt Silas

Tupelo – Joseph Brandt Silas, 52, passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2015, at his residence. Born on December 31, 1962, in Birmingham, AL, he was a son of the late Dalton Ray and Jewel Oleta Lindsey Silas.

Brandt graduated from Banks High School in Birmingham where he was a wide receiver on the football team. Finding his soulmate, he married the love of his life, Sara Judith Nassar. Brandt was a Loader Operator with Enviva nearly 5 years, had worked as a plant manager in the concrete plants in Amory and Birmingham, and had worked in construction. Always volunteering at church and with Helping Hands, he was a member of New Bethel United Methodist Church. He was an avid University of Alabama fan.

A true gentleman who had the ability to make people laugh, Brandt had a big heart, never met a stranger, always put others first, and treated everybody like family. He was a World War II history buff. Very grateful and possessing a positive outlook on life, Brandt loved his wife and family. He looked forward to their spontaneous road trips and took pleasure in making sure everyone was happy and enjoying themselves. Great with his hands, Brandt was a gifted carpenter who was very particular about doing things right the first time. He enjoyed listening to music by AC/DC, The Beatles, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and the special song Sara and he shared, “Thank You,” by Led Zeppelin.

Survivors include his wife and soulmate, Sara J. Silas, Tupelo; son, Hunter Silas, Alabama; brothers, Ray Silas (Cindy), Smithville, Lindsey Silas (Nanette), Trussville, AL, and Bryce Silas (Juanita), Pell City, AL; mother-in-law, Martha “Moomaw” Nassar, New Orleans; brothers-in-law, Juan Nassar, Tupelo and Antonio Nassar, New Orleans; and several nieces & nephews.
