Joseph “Joey” Johnson Tackett

Okolona – Joseph “Joey” Tackett, passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2024 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, MS. He was born on October 27, 1962, in Mobile, Alabama, a son to the late Robert Milton Tackett and Ollie Clotene Johnson Tackett.

Joey grew up in Louisiana and graduated from the Pearl River High School. He was a hardworking man, for over 30 years he was in the carpentry and construction industry, specializing in remodeling of buildings. He was talented with his hands and was able to fix just about anything and make it look brand new. Some might say he was a perfectionist, but he could just about repair, install, replace or create anything when it came to mobile or conventional homes. In addition to fixing buildings, he could fix up four wheelers and boats, making just about anything new. He loved to buy and trade motor sports vehicles such as boats, four wheelers and trailers.

He was a simple God Fearing country man who loved everything outdoors from hunting, camping, or tinkering on his vehicles. His favorite thing to do was to go fishing and compete in fishing tournaments as being on the water, patiently waiting for the next bite was time spent near and dear to his heart and soul. He often described the perfect day as sitting in a boat, out of the water, catching fish with the wind in his hair and a big glass of sweet tea in his hand. He loved the Lord and his family dearly. He was the type of guy to give the shirt off his back to a stranger. Some of his closest friends were Steve Jaggers, Dennis Smith, Mike Harrison and Raymond Wilson. He’d often say “God has a way of closing one door and opening another one” and never hesitated to tell anyone “God is good”.

Joey most of all loved being a “Pawpaw” to his grandkids, and he liked to take his family out on his pontoon boat during the summer. Being with family, he loved to cook as well as fry up an amazing meal with the fish he had caught earlier that day. He lived a simple life and didn’t want or need much and anything extra was always a blessing in his eyes. His family and friends will miss him dearly, yet they know that he is in the most beautiful place right now, probably fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Codie Tackett, Okolona, MS; daughters, Marissa Corley (Alvis), Amory and Jennifer Tackett, Greenwood, MS; sons, Bradley Tackett (MacKenzie), Mantachie, MS and Jamie Tackett, Cherry Creek, MS; grandchildren, Montgomery, Paislee, and Winston Corley, Amory; Willa and Ryleigh Tackett, Mantachie; Hope Michell and Beau Riley Tackett, Cherry Creek, MS.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Robert Tackett.
