Smithville – Joseph Richard “Joe” Cowley, 47, died on Sunday, July 31, 2011, at his residence. Born on August 24, 1963, in Amory, he was a son of the late Robert Lee and Johnie Mae Vaughn Cowley.
Joe attended Smithville schools. He had worked as a tattoo artist, a carpenter, a knife maker, and a barber. Joe grew up in the Methodist church and attended the Baptist church. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and his cat, Baba, watching movies, making knives, fishing, arrowhead hunting, creating items out of leather, and listening to Country music.
He is survived by his sister, Judy Lee Cowley, Amory; and special friends, Jay Knight, Shannon; Robin; Allen Duncan and Jimmy McCool, both of Smithville; and Joe Collier, Beaverton, AL.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3 PM, Thursday, August 4 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Jay Knight officiating.
His family will receive friends following the memorial service.
