Nettleton – Johnny Mitchel Worthey, 79, died on Monday, November 10, 2014, at his residence. Born on April 3, 1935, in Nettleton, he was a son of the late William Walter and Johnnie Elvie Finney Worthey.
He attended Pine Grove School, graduated from Nettleton High School in 1955, graduated from IJC, and attended Ole Miss and MSU. Mitchel was a US Navy veteran. On August 14, 1961, he married Elizabeth Kirchner. A man of faith, he loved his family. He was a retired press operator with Stone Container. He was a member of the Richmond Masonic Lodge #97. One who never met a stranger, Mitchel loved farm animals, tractors, dogs and keeping people on their toes with his practical jokes. He enjoyed farming, gardening, going to cattle sales and checking on folks to make sure they were okay.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Elizabeth Worthey, Nettleton; daughters, Brenda E. Worthey, New Albany and Michelle Worthey (Ritchie Underwood), Nettleton; son, Joseph M. Worthey (Lori), Dorsey; sister, Ophia Parchman Presley, Nettleton; grandchildren, Robert M. Ausbon, Chris and Beth Crawley, Lyndsey Poores and Nicklos Lopez; great-grandchildren, Lillie and Micah Ausbon, and Grace Lopez; several nieces & nephews; special friends, Thomas Burnette and Billy Cox.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Owen Wayne Worthey.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2 PM, Wednesday, November 12 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Hunter officiating. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Robert Ausbon, Chris Crawley, Jordan Kirby, Dalton Childers, Nathan “Gomer” Wallace, Robbie Ausbon and Ritchie Underwood.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Tuesday at the funeral home.
