Johnnie Spivey

Johnnie Faye Spivey, 72, of Amory, MS, passed away May 5, 2024. She was born June 2, 1951, in Aberdeen, MS, to the late John Dalton Motes and Cecil Faye Byrd Motes.
Johnnie leaves behind a legacy that will forever be cherished by her son Lee Brewer (Suzanne) and daughter Amy Brewer Burks (Steve). Grandchildren Laken Brewer Mize (Jay), Kristin Brewer Minor (Cameron), Skyler Burks (Lauren), Hunter Brewer, Seth Burks, and Kiara Brewer, as well as great-grandchildren Sylas Mize, MaKenna Mize, Olivia Castillo Minor, Alyvia Minor, Bentley Minor, and Blair Burks. She is also survived by her brother Bobby Motes and sister Carol Thompson.

Johnnie grew up in Ozark, Alabama and attended Carroll High School. She and Cecil Faye moved back to Mississippi in 1992. She had several jobs from road crews to the Levi plant until she found her place at Amory Walmart Garden Center where she showcased her work ethic and dedication to a job well done. She found solace and community at Grace Chapel, where she worshipped.

Johnnie Faye used Facebook to stay up to date with family and friends. Whether it was a single tap of the like button or a simple string of emojis, she loved being able to connect with the outside world. Such was an easy way of life until the iPad charger gave up on her. After Amy made a simple Facebook ‘All Call’ to the entirety of Monroe County, a charger was located and delivered in short order and all was well and good again. She enjoyed celebrity gossip, especially spewing distaste for Jennifer Lopez, as well as local folklore. She was just beginning to discover how much of both she could find on Instagram and TikTok.

She was known for yelling ‘War Eagle’, sending out for Milo’s tea (in the bottle, please), and always (ALWAYS) reminding us to bring back ‘two’ of everything on her list. The calls she made were always followed up with a call back because she had one more thing to tell you that she forgot on the first call and they all ended with love you better.

The tallest (and tannest) woman on Hatley Road will be remembered for her love for the Lord, her laughter, her love for football, the outfits she wore, the jokes she cracked, the love she had for her children, grand and great grandchildren.

We invite you to come celebrate Johnnie's life Friday, May 17, 2024, at 12:00 at her home, 60144 Hatley Rd Amory, MS 38821. We will honor her life on her mother Cecil Faye’s birthday. If you knew Johnnie Faye, you know this would bless her tremendously.

“Love you better”
