Johnie West

Johnie West
Johnie Sugg West passed peacefully from this life on May 23, 2013 at her home in Amory, Mississippi. She was born on the Sugg Farm in Monroe County, the daughter of the late John David and Ettie Jane Parham Sugg. She married Carl Edward West, former Police Chief of Amory, in 1962. Johnie graduated from Hatley High School and attended Itawamba Junior College in Fulton. She worked at Amory Garment in the computer department for several years, and later at Security Bank, from which she retired. Her co-workers and many customers remember her sweet smile and kind words. She was a member of the Amory Church of Christ, and truly loved her church family. She enjoyed the beauty of nature, and enjoyed many walks in the forests and woodlands, camping, and just sitting quietly in her beautiful back yard or at her cabin in the woods. She also had a great love of the ocean, and was never happier than when strolling along the beach collecting seashells.
A Celebration of Life Service will be 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 26, 2013 at the Amory Church of Christ with Ministers James Wyers and Derrick Maranto officiating. Burial will be in the New Hope Cemetery. E.E. Pickle Funeral Home of Amory is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include one daughter, Jana West of Firestone, Colorado; one son, Tim West (Jennifer) of Senatobia, Mississippi; 6 grandchildren, James (Jay), Katie, Taylor and Shane West and Kristen and Justin Gray; her sister, Joye Sugg Hester of Amory, and many cousins, nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; her son Jim Gray; brother, Haldon Sugg; and 5 sisters Carolyn Sugg, Mary Nell Sugg, Ethel Gray, Ruth Westbrook and Josephine Davis.
Pallbearers will be John Tucker, Randy Gray, David Gray, Randall Gray, Larry Gray, Richard Cagle, Jay West, Taylor West, and Shane West. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Dickerson, Jimmy Vaughn, and Jimmy Sullivan.
Visitation will be from 5-7 pm on Saturday evening at the funeral home. The body will lie in state at the church building from 1 p.m. until service time.
