Amory—John C. Foster, 79, passed away at Riverplace Nursing Home on Tuesday, November 15, 2016. He was a son of the late Jessie and Lillie Terry Foster. He attended school in Houston Mississippi. John married the love of his life, Offie Lee Foster on March 24, 1956 and together they were blessed with three daughters. In his wife’s later years, he was a caregiver beyond caregiver for her.
Mr. Foster was the owner and operator of Foster’s Upholstery for over 50 years. He designed the first rocker recliner. John was a hard worker who took great pride in his work. He also drove a school bus for the Monroe County Schools for many years.
In his spare time, he loved to grapple fish and enjoyed being outdoors. He played the guitar and enjoyed racing studebaker cars. With his wife and family, he spent many afternoons drag racing.
John was a very quiet man however, when he spoke, his words were very powerful. In recent times, John sought God’s hand. He had the perfect baptism ceremony at Merit Gilmore Memorial Hospital and became a child of God.
He is survived by his daughters: Sandra Phillips (William), Diane Hunt (Steve), and Johnnie Foster all of Amory; a sister, Louise Mills (Donald), Nettleton; a brother, Roy Foster (Joyce), Nettleton; Grandchildren, Michelle Burlison (David), Keith Garner, Bobby Phillips, Carri Phillips and Stone Garner; Great-Grandchildren: J.B. Burlison, Nathan Snider, Allie Burlison, Myles Wouldridge and a host of nieces and nephews. John was blessed with Johnny Sloan, Booker Bowen and Junior Wright as his closest friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Offie Lee Foster, a grandson, Jonathan Phillips and brothers Grady, Ervin, William and Lonnie Foster.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 18, 2016 at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory. Pastor Stanley Blaylock, Pastor Coy Hill and Roy Foster will be officiating. Burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery in Nettleton, MS. Pallbearers will be Robbie Foster, Dewayne Mills, Mark Foster, Billy Foster, Bobby Foster and Butch Foster. Visitation for Mr. Foster will be from 5:00 – 8:00 PM on Thursday evening, November 17, 2016 at the funeral home.
